Chandigarh An international conference on ‘Corporate Governance’ was organised in the seminar hall of the GGDSD College, Sector 32-C on Saturday. The conference was held in collaboration with University of the Fraser Valley (Canada).

The key speakers included Joseph Page and Nicolas Rouleau, both practicing lawyers hailing from Vancouver, Canada and Harsh Lata, lecturer in the Department of Commerce and Management in the college.

Joseph Page recommended some measures that managers can adopt to stay clear of liabilities. He said that putting in place an environmental management system that anticipates environmental problems and seeking insurance policies is one such way.

Nicolas Roulaeu, co-founder of the Treehouse Group, a Canadian think-tank devoted to exploring interdisciplinary ideas made a presentation on ‘A director’s liabilities, duties and risks’. Roulaeu is currently teaching comparative constitutional law at the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences in India.

Principal of the college, Dr A C Vaid, stressed on the need for greater integrity in the youth, who will head responsible positions in corporate houses in the future.

Quoting examples of business houses like that of Tatas, he said, the new organisations should also involve in corporate values and ethics.
