With the Delhi government and civic agencies coming under fire from a parliamentary committee for being under-prepared for the Games, Randhir Singh dismissed any suggestion of delay in preparations. “It could be an old report that was tabled today,” he said. “We all know that sometimes reports take a lot of time before they are tabled.”
When told that it was not an old report, Singh reiterated that all stakeholders in the Games were regularly updated. “I am sure the government will manage to complete its end of the job,” he said, adding that the organising committee was only looking after the sports infrastructure. “The Delhi government would be the right authority to answer questions on this issue.”
He admitted “some” delays so far as infrastructure is concerned. Some of the competitions that were to serve as test events in the run up to the Games have had to be postponed as the venues are not ready in time, he said. But Singh stressed that there’s enough time to catch up.
