Faculty members on campus could be seen asking mediapersons about what actually happened at the last PAUTA meeting that evoked such drastic response from the PAUTA president.

Meanwhile, president Dr M S Mahal could not be contacted on the issue as the latter is away in Delhi, vice-president Dr B S Sohal simply refused to be drawn into the controversy saying, “I came to the university and took my regular classes and that is all.” Dr G S Saroa, who was recently handed over the charge of PAUTA spokesperson after Mukesh Siag said he could not continue in this post because of his pre-occupation with his academic pursuits, too preferred not to answer his mobile calls.

Amid all this, Mukesh Siag, the general secretary of PAUTA, who all along has been the loudest sound in the PAUTA executive too went silent today. It is Mukesh Saig who last December spearheaded a campaign against the vice-chancellor Dr M S Kang which many say did not carry the sanction of the senior members of the PAUTA owing to its harsh and confrontational tone.

Dr S K Singla, a senior faculty member of the university, commented, “The events are very surprising but with PAUTA executive not telling us what has happened we are completely at sea about the goings-on. The right thing would have been that PAUTA executive should have informed us today for after all it is the teachers of the university who have elected them to the posts they are holding.”
