Amritsar Alleging non-payment of dues running in crores to farmers, Congress activists in Batala and the farmers’ wing of the party, led by former Congress MLA Ashwani Sekhri, today blocked the traffic on Batala-Pathankot Road for over two hours.

The protesters alleged that the SAD-BJP government was indifferent towards the demands of the farmers. Traffic remained suspended as the protesters shouted anti-government slogans. They charged the government with deliberately withholding balance payments amounting to more than Rs 100 crores to paddy farmers. Later, they also held a demonstration outside the sugar mill at Batala.

The protesters urged the government to release the pending amount soon, failing which they threatened to intensify the struggle.
