Vadodara, February 7 Former Congress councillor and leader Anuj Patel was remanded to six days judicial custody after the Vadodara DCB (Detection of Crime Branch) Police produced him in a local court in Vadodara on Thursday.

Patel was arrested by the DCB on Wednesday for his involvement in a land scam worth several lakhs of rupees and for having misused his powers as the Baroda Productivity Council (BPC) president.

After being ousted as the BPC president for handing over the council’s land to developers, the present management had initiated a legal action against him.

A local court has already stayed any kind of transaction of the disputed land.

Patel has been remanded to custody till February 13, to facilitate police investigations in the case.

Acting on a tip off, DCB personnel carried out a raid at the Sevasi farmhouse of his brother Utkarsh Patel and arrested Anuj Patel at around 2 pm when he was reportedly hiding after the court had issued an arrest warrant against him on Tuesday. BPC, which is a non-profit organisation that organises various training programmes, has been mired in controversy after Anuj Patel’s stint as its president and the land deal that he allegedly struck misusing his powers as BPC president.
