Lucknow As Congress kickstarts its poll preparations for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls, the strategy for the campaign for the first phase has been conveyed to the state units.

The achievements to be highlighted in rural areas are the loan waiver and the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, while in urban areas they have been asked to highlight income tax relief, price control and controlling the effect of the slowdown. "In rural areas, loan waiver will be an important achievement, because it directly benefits a large number of farmers," said a senior party leader. "In the urban areas, the income tax relief has directly benefited a large section of the middle class. Beside, our government was also able to control inflation."

The list of the star campaigners for the state includes Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh. After the first hoarding of the party projecting Rahul as the "future" was put up, the party workers were taken by surprise, as in the past Rahul was never projected so prominently. But in the other hoardings put up later, Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh and Rahul Gandhi, have all been given adequate space.

Mohan Prakash, member of the Congress publicity and publication committee said: "These three leaders will be our face in the election campaign as they represent three different elements. The Congress president is the symbol of sacrifice, Manmohan Singh is known for his sincerity and Rahul Gandhi represents the vision for the future."

Asked if there was any specific purpose behind projecting Rahul Gandhi alone in some of the hoardings, Prakash said: "This is just the first phase, after some time you will also see hoardings projecting Soniaji and Manmohanji separately."
