Satya Pal Jain, a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, said: “If any leader or officer is found involved in corruption, we want stern action to be taken against them. Unfortunately, the present Union government does not take any action against such political leaders and officers. If some officers dare to take action, they are threatened and transferred back to their parent states.”
The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), meanwhile, also blamed the Congress for problems in the city.
BSP convenor Harmohan Dhawan said: “The party has failed on all fronts. There is no issue concerning the city that has been resolved by them. The infighting between in the Administration is taking a toll on the development work in the city. The officials and Administrator have been appointed by the Central government. Yet, the government has failed to make them work together.”
The Chandigarh Congress Territorial Committee, meanwhile, stated that it was because of their efforts that the checkposts at the markets were removed.
Cong councillors welcome additional allocation of Rs 184 crore by Centre
Congress councillors on Thursday welcomed the additional allocation of Rs 184 crore to Chandigarh by the Centre for the Financial Year 2008-2009 under the Plan-Head and another Rs 160 crore under the Non-Plan Head. They said such an increase in the budget estimates is unprecedented. Former Mayor Pardeep Chhabra said the money will ensure the all-round development of the city’s infrastructure. The leaders said that the allegations of BJP leader Satya Pal Jain that the Centre had imposed cut on the city’s budget were baseless.
