Kolkata Not deterred by the chief minister’s confidence that the Centre is not considering imposition of Article 355 or 356 in Bengal, the state Congress today said as Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has himself admitted in the state Assembly yesterday that in some parts of the state fundamental rights of people are not being protected, West Bengal is a fit case for imposing Article 355.

Congress Legislative Party leader Manas Bhuniya today said: “The Article can be imposed if there is an external aggression or internal disturbance. In Bengal the chief minister himself accepted that there internal disturbances,” Bhuniya added.

Bhuniya said that on one side Maoists are killing people everyday and on the other hand political violence is also claiming many lives regularly. “Violence is spreading like fire in the state,” he added.

The Congress demand falls short with that of its ally Trinamool, which wants imposition of Article 356 as well, where the Union government dissolves the Assembly.
