The meeting, which was attended among others, by state Congress party president Siddharth Patel, chief party spokesperson Arjun Modhwadia, Lok Sabha MP Madhusudan Mistry and party’s executive president Kunwarji Bavalia, will also question the urgency of a vote-on-account in the Assembly.

The Congress leaders felt that the Narendra Modi government had avoided a full budget session in a bid to avoid the imposition of taxes so as to gain political advantage in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Otherwise, there was no need for a vote-on-account, they said.

In its 45-year history, the Gujarat Assembly had never called a vote-on-account. But, this is the second vote-on-account during Modi’s tenure ever since he took over the reigns of the state in 2001.

As the vote-on-account is being called for three days only, time will not be provided to discuss the meltdown effect, like the collapse of the diamond, plastic, chemical, textile and the fabrication and machinery industry in the state.

As such, the Congress has resolved to raise these issues during Question Hour.

Among other issues to be raised during the vote-on-account include the necessity of advancing Rs 9,570 crore loan to Tata Motors for its Nano car project at a nominal interest rate of 0.1 per cent, along with a highly subsidised power and water supply, when the total cost of the project itself is Rs 2,200 crore.
