Kolkata Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today lashed out at ally Congress accusing it of hatching a “conspiracy” against her party but said it would not be a factor in the municipal polls scheduled for May 30, which she said would see a direct contest between the Trinamool and the Left Front.

Addressing a gathering at Hazra Crossing on Friday evening, Banerjee said, “This will be a direct contest between the Trinamool and the Left Front. The Congress resorted to conspiracy against the people’s choice but they would not be successful in their designs.”

It was Banerjee’s second public meeting in the run-up for the civic elections. She also hit out at the CPM for their alleged failure on civic issues and in maintaining law and order. She said the ruling Marxists have no moral right to be in power since they have lost all the elections in the past three years.

“Those who are conspiring against the Trinamool are doing so to mislead the people. People do not want to see the CPM in power. Whoever realises this will not vote for the CPM,” said Banerjee.

Banerjee said in the past, people were not allowed to vote freely. “But fortunately, the situation has been changed. I believe once there is free and fair election, the CPM would be ousted overnight,” she said.
