Gurgaon, February 13 The Gurgaon Vigilance department arrested a constable today for taking bribe of Rs 5,000 from an accused to suppress information related to his case.

Sunil has been working at the computer branch of police headquarters in Gurgaon for six months now. He will be produced in court on Thursday, vigilance officers said.

The constable was arrested following a complaint by one Anoop Singh. Last week, the Civil Lines police had registered a case against 21-year-old Singh for allegedly sending obscene messages to a girl. Two days ago Sunil contacted Singh with the intention of making money in return for hiding Singh’s call details, officers said.

Singh agreed to give Rs 5,000 to Sunil on Wednesday and also informed the Vigilance department. When Singh reached police headquarters today, he was closely followed by vigilance, who caught him red-handed.

“Sunil can be discharged from service without a notice as he is still within the three-year probation period,” Vigilance Inspector Hari Pal said.
