Allahabad In broad daylight, a constable was shot by a fellow colleague in Kaushambi police lines at Manghanpur on Wednesday. The accused fled from the scene after committing the crime in the presence of hundreds of policemen.

The victim, Ashok Yadav, was declared dead on arrival at the Swaroop Rani Nehru hospital in Allahabad.

Terming the incident as unfortunate, K S Emanual, Superintendent of Police said two teams of policemen have been pushed into action to arrest the culprits. An FIR has also been lodged at the Manghanpur police station. “Action will be taken against the policemen who were present at the police lines at the time of incident but did not arrest Masuriadeen and other accused,” he added.

Two months ago, Ashok was suspended and subsequently terminated after an FIR was lodged against him under the SC/ST Act by his colleague Masuriadeen, posted in the district crime record bureau. Masuriadeen alleged that Ashok had abducted his young daughter.

Ashok, however, got some respite after the charges levied against him was exempted from the court. On Wednesday, he joined duty at the office of the district police chief, Kaushambi. Masriadeen was also posted in the same office.

Not finding the superintendent of police in his office, Ashok went to his residence at police lines .

Masuriadeen and four of his accomplices, meanwhile, reached his residence and started beating Ashok. Before others present at his house could fathom as to what was happening, Masuriadeen took out a country made pistol and shot at Ashok from point blank range. He pumped seven bullets in his body and fled from the spot. Ashok’s brother Virendra, too, sustained bullet injuries.

All senior police officers reached the spot after the incident occurred.
