Dr H.K. Singla, senior medical officer, Civil Hospital, Jagraon, Joginder Singh Aulakh, principal of District Institute of Education & Training (DIET), Jagraon, were also present on this occasion. More than 200 DIET students of Elementary Teachers Training (ETT) besides nursing students etc. participated in on-the-spot painting and declamation contests. Each participant highlighted the problems which result from the menace of female foeticide.
Subject experts Dr Manisha and Dr Vinay, both medical officers from Civil Hospital, Jagraon, and Gurcharan Kaur Thind, lecturer in English from Government Senior Secondary School, Dakha, were the judges.
Prof Baldev Singh of DIET, Jagraon, who co-ordinated the programme said that for protection of the girl child, good education, awareness of women’s rights and respect for girls could stand as defence against the murder of the un-born daughters.
In the end, Dr. H.K. Singla, SMO, Dr. Arun Gupta, MO, Civil Hospital, Jagraon, Joginder Singh Aulakh, principal, DIET, Jagraon, gave away the prizes to the victorious students and congratulated them. Expressing concern over female foeticide, they motivated the students to develop scientific and rational outlook in life and be ready to wage a fight against this menace.
Results of various contests: On-the-spot painting contest: Keshavdeep Kaur and Manpreet Kaur of Swami Roop Chand Jain Senior Secondary School, Jagraon, Ramandeep Kaur of ETT semester-III, DIET, Jagraon bagged first, second and third positions. Declamation contest: Veerpal Kaur and Sumeetu of ETT semester III of DIET and Navkiran Kaur of Swami Roop Chand Jain Senior Secondary School, Jagraon bagged first, third and second positions.
