The strike caused a shortage of over 30,000 litres of milk. Around 150 contract labourers employed for loading, unloading and packaging milk packets for the city went on a strike on Thursday night. The workers have been demanding permanent jobs.
They also staged a dharna before the diary’s office, from where 55 workers were arrested, said an official on behalf of S K Prasad, General Manager, Parag Milk and Milk Products.
This is the second strike that the unit of the state-owned Pradeshik Cooperative Dairy Federation has faced within a span of one month. Parag delivers around 75,000 litres every morning. By substituting workers at Barabanki and Sitapur to package and load the milk, the diary was able to distribute 45,000 litres to the city.
