Lohia (Jalandhar) Nearly 70 residents of Giddarpindi and surrounding villages staged a peaceful dharna for over an hour in front of the residence of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) member Shingara Singh here.

They also gave him an ultimatum, asking him to release the village gurdwara from the control of SGPC by tomorrow evening or they will intensify their protest.

Balbir Singh, village head of Giddarpindi, said, “People are up in arms against this move and want to get the gurdwara back at any cost.”

Gurdwara Dharmshala Tahli Sahib and Shaheed Udham Singh Public School in Giddarpindi were allegedly forcefully taken over by the task force of the SGPC, led by Shingara, on January 11 against the wishes of the villagers.

The villagers also visited the SGPC office in Amritsar twice, but to no avail. Villagers alleged that the SGPC, instead of solving the matter, has been advising the villagers to take the help of MLA Ajit Singh Kohar and SGPC member Shingara Singh to sort it out.
