Ludhiana, March 3 Tension gripped the Habibganj area near Civil Hospital on Sunday evening when six people, including a police constable, were hurt in a clash between two groups. The two groups, reportedly the Sansi and the Valmiki, pelted each other with stones.

Three people have sustained serious injuries.

On Monday afternoon, too, there was a clash between the two groups. However, no one was hurt during the clash today.

Events took an ugly turn during a clash between two Sansi factions.

According to information available, two youths from the Sansi community had got into a tiff with each other over lottery stalls and it turned violent.

Some of the stones and bricks landed on the premises of a Valmiki temple in the area. Members of the Valmiki community stepped in and retaliated by pelting members of the Sansi community with stones.

Both the sides threw stones, bricks and bottles at each other and created a furore till police and senior members of the community intervened.

Meanwhile, police tried to diffuse the tension and asked the members of the two communities to reach a compromise and summoned them to the police station on Monday afternoon.

No compromise, however, has been reached so far and the situation in the area is still tense.

Police have not registered against anyone till now.
