Harjinder Singh, who is actually Ravinder Singh, has been booked for fraud, and sent to judicial remand. Deserted wife of the policeman, Saroj Bala, had spilled the beans when she suspected that he had tied the knot again.
She had filed a complaint last year, and an inquiry conducted by the commandant of the 7th Battalion had found the cop guilty.
The inquiry found that Ravinder was doing the job on the certificates of his brother, Harjinder Singh, who died on November 15, 1996, in Hoshiarpur Civil Hospital after consuming a poisonous substance, said sources.
ASI Mohinder Singh, who is in charge of the case, said after taking legal opinion, the Jalandhar SSP registered a case on March 5. The accused was dismissed on October 20, 2008.
