Mumbai, March 8 Officers of the Goregaon police station on Friday arrested two women on charges of attempting to murder their husbands’ sister by setting her on fire at her residence at Indira Nagar, Cama Estate, Goregaon.

According to the police, the two arrested women, identified as Leela Rathod (40) and Daksha Rathod (22) are the sisters-in-law of the victim, Nirmala Rane (27). “The accused used to have frequent arguments with Nirmala due to some property dispute between them. All of them were staying in the same house which is very small and the two accused wanted Nirmala to move out. On February 29, the victim had another quarrel with the accused over property dispute. On Friday night, the duo poured kerosene on Nirmala when she was asleep and set her on fire,” said Assistant Police Inspector Rajesh Shinde.

“The two accused have been arrested and charged with attempt to murder. The victim has been admitted to the Kasturba Hospital for medical treatment as she has suffered burn injuries on her hands and abdomen,” Shinde added.
