In a hit-and-run case on September 12, 2008, the speeding cab had hit Navneet, 40, near Sector 9-16 petrol pump. Navneet’s ribs were severely damaged in the accident.
Newsline had been regularly reporting about the slow investigations by the police in the case.
Since the accident, Navneet’s 69-year-old father, physically challenged himself, had been running from pillar to post seeking justice.
Investigating Officer Assistant Sub-Inspector Zile Singh said: “After the State Transport Authority provided us the details, we found that the maxi cab belonged to one Mega cab Agency located in Sector 17. A notice has been served to Arvind Kumar, the owner of the agency.”
Kumar said: “We recently came to know that one of our drivers, Amarjeet Singh, was involved in the case. He has gone to his native village to attend his sister’s wedding. We have asked him to return immediately. The maxi cab, meanwhile, has been taken out of town. We will hand it over to the Panchkula police once it returns.”
“The police were set to close the case. Soon after the Newsline report, I went to the office of the State transport Authority in Sector 17 and was told that police have taken on record the registration number (CH03A 0053) and vehicle details provided by us,” said K N Vohra.
While all figures of the registration number were same, the series was 02 instead of 03 and the original registration number of the maxi cab is CH 02A 0053, Vohra added.
