Jalandhar, January 8 With the recovery of Rs 37 lakh last night by the police from the room of deceased KMV principal Rita Bawa, police are now focusing on a possible property dispute that could be behind the murder.

Two police teams have been sent to Delhi by the Jalandhar police. SSP Arpit Shukla said the district police have constituted a team comprising SP (D) P.B.S. Parmar and DSP (Traffic) Rajinder Singh to investigate the matter in Delhi.

Police sources said the district police are looking into all monetary transactions carried out by Bawa in recent times. Various bank accounts documents were recovered from the murder site and the police are examining the bank accounts of the deceased.

It is also learnt that the principal had made several visits to Delhi in connection with sale and purchase of some property in Delhi in the past one month. The principal had property not only in Jalandhar’s posh localities, but in Delhi as well, said police sources.

SSP Arpit Shukla said the police are investigating all angles to solve the case as soon as possible. He added that the motive behind the murder could not be theft. “It seems the killers were in search of some CD or documents as various documents were lying scattered in the house on the day of the murder,” he said.

The role of the deceased’s cook, Kishore Mandal, has also come under a scanner. Police sources said the cook gave information to outsiders about the principal’s activities.

On the other hand, it is learnt that on the day of the murder, only 26 girls were present in the hostel because of winter vacations. Police are also quizzing senior college staff members as well. The police also found that the wires of the close-circuit TV installed outside the office of the principal had been disconnected.
