Kolkata Two months after he allegedly murdered his elder brother’s wife and son, Satya Saha was arrested by the Kolkata Police’s detective department (DD) sleuths on Tuesday night.

The police were on the lookout for Saha since December 15, when the body of one-year-old child Indrajit Saha was found dumped in a gunny bag on East Canal road.

“Satya was arrested from the Phoolbagan crossing,” said DC (DD) Jawed Shamim. DD sources said soon after the double murder, Satya, who worked as a manager in a beverage factory in Dankuni, fled the city in a truck. “He knew many truck drivers who worked for the company for delivery of products,” said a senior police official.

Police said while on the run, he worked as a helper in a truck and went to Orissa, Jharkand and Bihar for delivery of goods. “We were aware he was traveling to places like Rourkela and Patna and we were constantly keeping a tab on his whereabouts,” said a senior police officer.

All this while his wife Nandita Saha was under police custody. On Tuesday night, Satya entered the city by the Sambhalpur Express around 9 pm. The police nabbed him from Phoolbagan, when he was merely 10 minutes from his residence on Suren Sarkar road.

According to the police, a family feud over property was the main reason behind the murder. On the morning of December 14 last year, Satya and his wife Nandita allegedly killed Bulu Saha, the wife of Satya’s brother Bidyut, by hitting her with a blunt object. They then allegedly killed Bidyut’s one-year-old son. Bulu’s body was found two days after the incident.
