“Both Harendra Gaud and Saddam Ansari are not divulging any thing about their accomplices and the kingpin who is behind the scam to push counterfeit currency in the country through the Nepal-Bihar route,” said investigating officer R J Pandor. On Tuesday, the police busted the racket from the Fatehgunj area after local vegetable vendors and shopkeepers alerted it about the movement of the duo in the local market and their move to circulate currency notes of Rs 500 denomination. Eventually, the police seized fake currency notes to the face value of Rs 1,28,500.
Pandor said, “We are now trying to get call records from the cellphone companies since they both possessed mobile phones and also had SIM cards. The call details will certainly throw some light on the case.”
“Also, we would like to exchange the case details with the Chikhli police, which probably busted a similar racket. We have already tried to call up the officials there, but since they were busy in investigation we could not speak to them,” he said. According to the police, Ansari and Gaud are small players of the big racket. “We are more interested in catching the bigger fish, but unfortunately, these two are not opening up and divulging any information accept the fact that they were just asked to supply the stock in a specific market,” said an official.
