Kolkata
The Kolkata police have suspended two policemen with the Amherst Street police station on charges of demanding bribe from a trucker. An inquiry was ordered against the accused cops soon after their suspension. On Monday morning, fish traders of the Sealdah Wholesale Market blocked the Acharya Prafulla Chandra Road near Rajabazar crossing, alleging that the two policemen patrolling the area have detained a fish-loaded truck from entering the local market after the driver refused to gratify them. The traders agreed to lift the blockade only after the intervention of Biswarup Ghosh, Deputy Commisioner (North). “Ghosh assured us of action against the cops and promised to stop such malpractices,” said a trader.
