Mumbai A quarrel over property took an ugly turn on Friday when a cop-turned-political-leader shot four rounds at his two sons, killing one of them, at their home in Parshva Apartments, Banganga, in Malabar Hill on Friday afternoon.

The former constable, Keshav Bhosale (64), has been booked for murder.

Bhosale had fought the Assembly elections first as an Independent. Thereafter, he joined the NCP and was suspended from the party. Later, he had joined the Congress.

Malabar Hill police registered a case of murder against Bhosale and said they received information about the shooting on Friday afternoon. DCP Sanjay Mohite (Zone 2) said, “Our officers found the sons of Bhosale, Rajesh (in his late thirties) and Ganesh (in his early thirties) in a pool of blood with gunshot wounds and an ornamental sword lying near the entrance to the house. Both had been shot twice. They were taken to Elisabeth Hospital. Ganesh who took a bullet in the abdomen and another on the head, succumbed to injuries. Rajesh, who suffered gunshots on the abdomen and cheek, is in a critical condition.”

Keshav, who was also wounded on the right arm with a sharp weapon, has been admitted to the Bhatia Hospital.

According to investigators, the sons, who did not reside with Keshav, had come to Parshva Apartment to attend the death anniversary ritual of their mother, Keshav’s first wife.

On Friday afternoon, Ganesh, Rajesh and their sister Usha reached the flat for the ritual. Shortly, the sons allegedly got into a quarrel with their father over their share of the property. Mohite said, “Bhosale owns a few shops in Malabar Hill area and as far as we know, his two sons had been demanding their share for several months now. As far as we know, the sons were not employed and received a monthly allowance from their father.” The revolver used in the shooting was issued from Bhosale’s hometown Khed, in Ratnagiri, cops said.

Senior Police Inspector Iqbal Shaikh of Malabar Hill police station said, “From what we have gathered so far, Bhosale was a police constable before he was dismissed over alleged involvement in some smuggling case. After that, he worked with several political parties and till recently, had been a Congress member.”

Bhosale’s family was unavailable for comment as their statements were being taken and the ‘panchnama’ was going on in the house. As per the police, Bhosale had a few criminal cases registered against him.

Golden rule on money by P Paul on 07 Mar 2009

"More money, more problems," says my four-year-old grandson. If you have enough for your own maintenance, don't fight with greedy siblings or children and willingly share extra money with them. It remains within the family. Tell such persons, however, that they can have your money but not your love and stay away from them. Over period of time people mellow and realizing their excesses, they make up. That is when it is hard-earned money. The wealth acquired any other way is evil and must be handled with care.
