Kolkata With the Opposition — both the BJP and Left — trying to corner Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee in Parliament over her recent remarks about the killing of Maoist leader Azad, the Trinamool Congress is planning to move a privilege motion against Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley.

Banerjee, who is expected to reach Delhi on Wednesday to attend the ongoing Monsoon session, has asked party chief whip Sudip Banerjee to look into the possibility of moving a privilege motion against Jaitley for allegedly distorting her Lalgarh speech in which she had termed Azad’s killing in an encounter as “murder and unjust”.

“This is to counter the allegations made against Mamata Banerjee. In fact, apart from her remark on Azad’s killing, the minister’s view on tackling Maoist problem was not embarrassing for the government. She has decided to face the situation on the floor of the Parliament,” said senior Trinamool leader and Union minister Mukul Roy.

Since her rally in Lalgarh on August 9, the Opposition has been demanding clarification from the minister as well as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. They alleged that despite being a member of the Union Cabinet, Banerjee called for the stopping of anti-Maoist operations.

“At the same time, we have to find out whether the Opposition MPs have distorted her speech,” added Roy.
