The officials went to remove encroachments from various parts of the city but without much success.
At Field Ganj, they were threatened with dire consequences if a single rehri was removed.
Though the branch claimed of removing a few benches, sheds and stalls from the Sarabha Nagar market and Gurdev Nagar, the vendors were back in their place thus making the entire day’s operation futile.
At Field Ganj, the tehbazari team had parked their two JCB machines an hour before the operation was to take off. Therefore, shopkeepers had ample time to shoo away the MC officials.
The market association staged a dharna and warned the team to leave the market immediately. Naveen Malhotra, superintendent tehbazari branch, said, “We have intimated the commissioner and have given two days time to shopkeepers to remove their encroachments.”
Meanwhile, the shopkeepers of Karimpura market had removed the encroachments on their own but their stalls were back after the MC team left.
The tehbazari branch had to abort their drive on the Gurdwara Dukhniwaran Road and Trunk Bazar in Field Ganj.
Meanwhile, the tehbazari branch has asked the Sacred Heart Convent School to create their own parking space.
Visitors had parked their vehicles outside the school including in the parking area of the MC skating rink.
