Earlier, the MC had rejected the proposal after finding technical specifications mentioned in the tender document below expectations.
The corporation has already placed orders worth Rs 3 crore with an Italian firm to purchase three large mechanical road-sweeping machines which are expected to reach here in the next 25 days. Recently, three members of the MC technical team visited Italy to inspect the machines.
The Joint Municipal Commissioner II, H S Kamdhola, who was one of the members of the team, said that they have asked the company to make certain changes in the sweeping machines.
Kandhola said that before their visit, they had inspected the ride-on type mechanical road-sweeping machines at Nalagarh and found their performance below expectations. He said new tenders for the machines would be completed by the next week.
“Earlier, we were not aware about the type of machines needed to clean the Plaza area of Sector 17 and 34 and parking lots. We had prepared the technical specifications after browsing the internet. Even the bidders did not provide us the required information, after which the idea was dropped,” he added.
He said according to the the current specifications of the MC, the machines that were to be acquired would not have been able to clean the parking lots located along Madhya Marg and Sector 17 Plaza area and beside City Centre of Sector 34.
In response to the tenders floated by the MC, total eight bids were received from different companies. While three bids were received for the large mechanical road-sweeping machines, five bids were received for providing the ride-on type dual power mechanical road-sweeping machines.
The corporation is planning to use the bigger mechanical road-sweeping machines to clean the V-2 and V-3 roads, while the smaller machines will be used to clean Sector 17 Plaza area and Sector 34 City Centre.
Facing shortage of staff, the MC is expecting better cleanliness of city roads and other areas with the help of these machines. Against the requirement of 4,800 sweepers (as per the norms of the Central government), at present the MC has only 1,857 regular and 200 sweepers on contract.
