Kolkata The West Bengal Higher Education Council on Monday decided that all students in Bengal with 55 percent marks at the postgraduate level will be eligible to take the College Service Examination, even if they studied a different subject in graduation.

The earlier eligibility rules mandated that each candidate needed to secure 55 per cent marks at the post-graduation level. Also, the subject at the postgraduate level should be the same in graduation.

“There will be a modification in the Act of the College Service Commission to allow candidates who have done Masters and graduation in different streams to appear for the College Service Commission,” said Subimal Sen, chairman of the Higher Education Council.

With the earlier rules, the commission was unable to get candidates for Education, Nutrition and Music as these subjects were introduced at the graduation level, said an official.
