Ludhiana The MC building and roadways department had to stop the brick-lining work in Ward Number 62, on Tuesday afternoon, after area councillor Jaspal Singh Sandhu raised questions over the quality of bricks being used.

Sandhu said, “Work in two colonies — Sukhdev Nagar and Guru Gobind Singh Nagar — was undertaken with a total budget of nearly Rs 23 lakh. When I found sub-standard bricks being used, I approached the MC team who reached the spot and agreed with my objections.”

Contractor Neeraj Joshi, who was assigned the project in these areas, was asked to remove the ‘substandard’ bricks from the lanes and allow the team to check the quality of material being used.

In a similar incident last night, road metalling work near Sangeet Cinema had to be stopped after area councillor Parminder Soma found the road to be of ‘poor quality’. The contractor has been ordered to re-lay the road in the area.
