Zirakpur Levelling serious allegations of corruption against president of Zirakpur Municipal Council Narinder Kumar Sharma, a group of councillors of the ruling SAD-BJP combine on Monday demanded a Vigilance inquiry into alleged embezzlement of funds in development of a park in Bhabat and other alleged irregularities committed by him.

Addressing a joint press conference here, five councillors, Gurmukh Singh, Harpreet Singh, Manisha Malik, Hardev Kaur Mangat and Parmjit Kaur Sodhi, alleged that Sharma has amassed property disproportionate to his known sources of income. They alleged that he had only a scooter when he became MC president for the first time, but today his wealth was in several crores, which, they alleged, has been amassed by embezzlement of MC funds. They alleged that he promoted illegal construction to line his pockets. Criticising his attempt to interfere in party affairs, he said he was expelled by the SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal for his anti-party activities.

Opposing the proposed construction of golf course at Gazipur village by Zirakpur MC, he said Sharma was doing this to allegedly help some of his friends.

Notably, Sharma had on Sunday levelled serious allegations against Capt Kanwaljit, who had recently courted controversy by saying that Sukhbir would have to prove his ability in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections before taking over from his father.
