Kolkata After Manesar in Haryana, the second hub of National Security Guards is going to be set up at Kaikhali near Dum Dum, 5 km from the airport.

The plot is of 20 acre, of which 15 acre will be available. And the state government will have to neither acquire nor buy the land as most of it belongs to the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

“It will just be a transfer of land between two government departments. A meeting will soon be convened between the AAI, the NSG and the state government to work out the details. The land will be handed over to the NSG within a month,” a government official told The Indian Express.

The decision was made at a meeting held in Writers' Buildings on Friday, attended by NSG director J K Dutt, Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen and DGP A V Vohra. On February 13, an NSG team had visited the Kaikhali site and selected the spot where a small contingent — numbering around 120 — will be stationed. The unit will have barracks, offices and playground.

At today’s meeting, Dutt expressed satisfaction when shown a satellite map of the Kaikhali plot. He also saw the revenue settlement map of the plot at Barrackpore, where the training centre of the elite commando force — in the model of NSG at Manesar — will be set up.

The Barrackpore site had 1,200 acres, all belonging to the ministry of Defence. “The NSG liked it, but wanted a smaller unit,” said Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen.

Dutt said his unit was getting all cooperation from the state government. “We are hopeful of setting up the hub very soon,” he said.

He also called on Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and presented him with an NSG memento. A West Bengal cadre officer, Dutt is to retire this month.
