Vadodara A couple committed suicide by hanging themselves from the ceiling in a hotel at Akota on Sunday, police said. One of the deceased has been identified as Ghanshyam Yadav (22) from Jaipur, while the identity of the girl could not be ascertained, although the police said Yadav had entered her name as Sapna in the hotel register.

The investigating officer in the case, Sub-Inspector B M Rathwa, said the couple had checked into Skylab Hotel at Akota on Saturday night. On Sunday morning, when bell-boy Kanti Chauhan knocked at their door, he got no response. He broke open the door, only to find the couple hanging from the ceiling fan.

On searching the room, the police found Ghanshyam’s Permanent Account Number (PAN) card, Rs 15,000 and a mobile phone.

“We checked through call records and found his brother Lokesh’s number. We called him up in Jaipur. Initially, he denied having any information about Ghanshyam and Sapna. But later he told us the girl’s name was not genuine.

Refusing to comment on Ghanshyam’s relation with the girl, Lokesh said he was clueless why his brother had taken such an extreme step,” said Rathwa.

“Lokesh said Ghanshyam was an executive with Reliance India Limited and had told them that he was going out of station on a business trip,” Rathwa added.

The police are yet to ascertain why the couple had to come to Vadodara to commit suicide. Rathwa, however, said the girl might be from Vadodara.
