Ahmedabad The Ahmedabad Metropolitan Court, on Monday, sent the five people arrested by the Khadia police for robbing an employee of a local courier firm of Rs 14.79 lakh last Tuesday, to eight days in police remand.

Two unidentified persons had attacked Hakma Prajapati from Ghasiram ni Pol on Tuesday night while he was sleeping at his residence. The two accused also stabbed Prajapati when he resisted and decamped with the money.

Prajapati is the manager of Babulal Kantilal courier firm and had kept the money from the Khadia branch of the firm at his residence.

Officers from the Ahmedabad City Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) and the Khadia police were investigating the case and had arrested five people on Sunday. They have been identified as Jagdish Prajapati, Soma Debarthi, Vijay Prajapati, Kalu and Manoj. One person is still at large.

Public prosecutor Jitu Pandya said: “The police have recovered an amount of around Rs 5 lakh from the accused. The remaining amount is yet to be recovered. The sixth accused is evading arrest and his whereabouts can be ascertained only by interrogating the five accused. So, the court has sent them in police remand for eight days.”
