A Delhi court acquitted a couple charged with rape and abetment and thrown out the victim’s complaint as “improbable”. The court refused to believe the victim’s allegations that she was sexually abused by the accused with his wife playing accomplice. Additional Sessions Judge Surinder Kumar Mishra observed: “No wife in our society would allow her husband to rape a girl in her presence.” It acquitted Salim and Saira Bano, residents of Northeast Delhi, of charges of kidnapping, rape and criminal intimidation.
