Ahmedabad The Ahmedabad City Sessions Court on Wednesday deferred hearing on the revision application filed by the Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) seeking police custody of DySP V S Gohil, an accused in the Naroda Gam massacre case.

Sessions Judge R H Sharma deferred the matter till Thursday, as the Investigating Officer in the case, Superintendent of Police P L Mal, had come to the court without the case diary.

Gohil, the then inspector of the Naroda Police Station and the Investigating Officer of the Naroda Gam riot case, is accused of dereliction of duty. After arresting him, the SIT had produced Gohil before the Metropolitan Magistrate and demanded his police custody. The magistrate, however, rejected the remand application and sent him to judicial custody.

Advocate Kinnar Shah, who represented Gohil before the court, said: “The court had asked to see the case diary, which the investigating officer did not carry along with him. Following this, the court expressed displeasure and adjourned the matter till Thursday.”

Mal, on his part, said, “Due to my busy schedule, I forgot to take the case diary with me for the hearing.”
