Though the FIRs have not been filed yet, a senior police officer said they will comply with the court directives.
One student, Mukesh Yadav, was killed and two others had sustained serious injuries when police opened fire on agitating students of Chaudhary Charan Singh Degree College in Havera, on January 9.
They were protesting against the manhandling of Samajwadi Party leaders Shivpal Singh Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav by the police.
The five policemen who will be now charged include Additional Superintendent of Police RP Gautam, Head Constable Malkhan Singh and constables Sanjeev Gautam, Rajeev Dubey and Srikrishna Saini.
Following the incident, the police had filed FIRs against the students of the college but Ram Gopal, an employee of the college, tried to lodge a complaint against the policemen.
With no FIRs lodged against the policemen, Gopal filed a petition to the Etawah CJM, Rakesh Jain.
Reacting to the latest court’s direction, district president of Samajwadi Party Ashok Yadav said it was a partial victory for the party workers over the police, who were acting on the directives of the Mayawati government.
