New Delhi, March 6 The Central Bureau of Investigation has incurred the wrath of a city court for showing “negligent attitude” in prosecuting a case. The judge noted that neither the agency’s counsel nor the investigating officer (IO) had been appearing before it to pursue the matter.

Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) I K Kochhar took umbrage at the fact that nobody from the CBI had appeared in the case against Sharda Kapoor and others, despite the court repeatedly calling for the matter throughout Tuesday, the last date of hearing.

The ASJ directed that a copy of the order be sent to the CBI’s SP for communicating to him the slackness of the officers dealing with the case. In her order, the ASJ also mentioned that on an earlier date too, nobody from the agency had been present in court.

It is “apparent” that the prosecution is not interested in pursuing the case, the court said, adding that only one more opportunity would be given to the CBI for making appropriate representation in this regard and to file all documents pertaining to the case. The court has now fixed April 23 as the next date of hearing in the case, which was registered by the CBI last year. According to the agency, the accused had fraudulently obtained passports on the basis of fake documents.
