Court rejects Sofat’s anticipatory bail plea

Chandigarh The Punjab and Haryana High Court has dismissed anticipatory bail application filed by Dr Sumit Sofat. Claiming his innocence and alleging false implication by the Panchkula police, Ludhiana-based Dr Sumit Sofat had moved anticipatory bail application.

The bail was dismissed today by Justice RK Jain. The Court, on October 5 had issued notice to the Panchkula police and the Haryana government.

In his bail application, Dr Sofat claimed had that he was complainant in the case and instead of acting on that, police had falsely implicated him in a case of attempt to murder. Sofat had further alleged that Panchkula police was acting on the behest of Simmi Pashan of Ludhiana, who is the organising secretary of the Congress party. Seeking a stay on his arrest, Sofat had submitted before the court that he was ready to join the investigation whenever called by the Panchkula police pertaining to the case.

Dr Sofat was booked by Panchkula police on August 8 following the investigations into his complaint of robbery and shoot-out at Morni hills on July 19 revealed that the incident was planned by Dr Sofat himself to fix Ramesh Pashan and his two sons in a criminal case.

Earlier, On July 19, Dr Sumit Sofat had alleged that another person from Ludhiana , Ramesh Pashan and his two sons Vinayak and Abhinav with the help of their driver Ranjit and two other unidentified persons attacked him injuring his driver Nelson who got two bullets in his chest. Dr Sofat also alleged that Pashan family has robbed Rs 33 lakh from his vehicle.

However, later it was found by the police that Dr Sofat himself cooked the story of attack and had falsely implicated the Pashan family.
