Kolkata The chief judge of the City Sessions Court on Tuesday asked the Superintendent of the Presidency Correctional home to file a report on the release of Pradip Todi, one of the accused in the Rizwanur Rehman death case, by Wednesday.

Advocate Lokesh Sharma, counsel of Pradip Todi, lodged a complaint with Chief Judge Murari Mohan Ghosh that the authorities of the Presidency Correctional Home had refused to release Todi on bail on January 17, even after an order from the Supreme Court. A counsel of Todi had handed over the documents to the Presidency Correctional Home at 4.30 pm on January 17. But the authorities refused to release Todi.

The Supreme Court had granted bail to Ashok Todi and Pradip Todi — imposing a few conditions —on January 16. Following this, the counsel of Pradip Todi had collected the copy of the order from the Supreme Court. Next day he reached the correctional home in the evening along with order of the Supreme Court. But Pradip Todi was released on January 18.

Advocate Sharma alleged Todi was illegally detained there for a day. On the

other hand, Ashok Todi, another accused, had been released on bail on January 17 after the SC order was passed. He was released from the SSKM hospital late in the night.
