Mumbai Mumbai FC under-19 boys continued their winning run by overcoming Air India colts 1-0 in the Mahindra MFL super six of the Senior Division football tournament played at the St. Xavier’s ground Parel on Tuesday. The winning goal came in the 21st minute of the first half scored by John Coutinho.

Mumbai FC now head the table with nine points from three wins, followed by Mahindra u-19 with seven points from two wins and a draw. Air India playing in their first match, finished second best to Mumbai FC, whose coach Khalid Jamil was happy with the performance of his team but was a bit disappointed with his boys for missing three easy chances. Jayesh for Mumbai FC was the first culprit to miss by kicking wide. In the 21st minute a brilliant move was created between Sam Cruz and John Coutinho from the mid-field. Sam Cruz crossed the ball to the left flank to John Coutinho who passed it back to Sam Cruz, while John Coutinho came inside the ‘D’ and unleashed a powerful left-footer to the left of goal-keeper Wayne of Air India.

In the second half, Air India went on attack for a brief period but goal-keeper Neeraj Sharma of Mumbai FC brought off a couple of brilliant saves. So far he has not conceded a goal in the tournament. John Coutinho, who had only the Air India goal-keeper to beat, shot over the bar and then Rohit’s shot from the close was cleared by an Air India defender.

Result: Mumbai FC 1 (John Coutinho 1) bt Air India 0.
