Pune Indian security agencies may be working in tandem to ensure attacks such as 26/11 do not recur, but people in Pune are following their counterparts in Mumbai in taking up a terror cover for themselves. As many as 468 people from Pune have got themselves insured against terrorist attacks, as against 5,151 Mumbaikars.

The online terror cover being offered by www.click2insure.in , underwritten by The Oriental Insurance Company, comes at a premium of Rs 99 and offers a cover of Rs 5 lakh.

“In the aftermath of the serial blasts in Jaipur, Bangalore, and Ahmedabad, www.click2insure.in had announced a standalone free terror cover of Rs 1 lakh and it has already found more than 30,000 takers. Now, in view of the increasing demand, we have launched a standalone terrorism cover of Rs 5 lakh for citizens, except for those based in J&K and the northeastern states,” said Rahul Aggarwal, chief executive of click2insure.

Click2insure, a retail insurance portal of Optima Insurance Brokers, was launched in May 2008 as one of the first comprehensive sites to provide services of 21 companies for five types of insurance — car, travel, health, term life and home. After the Mumbai terror attacks, the number of takers for terrorism insurance has increased rapidly.

“Terrorism is an urban reality now. Many families lose their sole bread-winners in this mindless violence. After the Jaipur blasts, we looked around for terrorism insurance for our customers and found that there were no products from any company. We, therefore, drafted an insurance policy and approached various insurers to underwrite the cover,” said Aggarwal.

The idea behind the facility is to empower the buyer in making an informed decision. “Here we have the facility to compare the quotes and various features offered by companies. The prevalent form of buying insurance is through insurance agents who sell policies based on their own commission structure or alignment to a particular insurance company. A lot of mis-selling that happens and we are trying to equip the consumer so that he can avoid these,” he said.
