At a gathering on Tuesday, general secretary of the party, Dipankar Bhattacharjee, said: “The unutilised land should soon be returned to the farmers.”
The party also demanded an increase in the daily wages under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS). At present, the rate was Rs 68 in West Bengal. The party wanted it to be increased to Rs 200.
Bhattacharjee accused the state government of failing to implement NREGS, a Centrally-sponsored scheme for creating employment in the rural areas.
He also demanded changes in NREGS guidelines, which will guarantee work for at least 200 days for every two persons of a family. At present, the guideline says that one person of a family will get work for 100 days in a year. The party also demanded publication of the BPL list from time to time.
