Kolkata A CPM activist died on Monday after he was shot at allegedly by suspected Maoists in Purulia district on Sunday night. Amulya Mandal (30) was attacked at Kherua village, close to the Jharkhand border, and he succumbed to his injuries in a private hospital at Jamshedpur. Purulia SP Rajesh Yadav said the involvement of Maoists cannot be ruled out even though no Maoist poster or leaflet was recovered from the spot. Police sources said the deceased’s younger brother, Madhu Mondal, was actually on the Maoists’ target as he is more active in the local CPM unit. CPM district committee secretary Nakul Mahato asserted that Maoists were involved in the killing. They escaped into Jharkhand after the murder, said Mahato.
