New Delhi The CPM has finally set in motion the much-talked about rectification process with the Politburo, which met here over the weekend, conducting a self-critical analysis of its collective functioning and the working style of its individual members.

Kickstarting the rectification exercise, Politburo members gave their assessment about themselves and the working style of others during the two-day meet. The party has already decided to start the process from the top.

“The individual views of the members about themselves and others and the collective assessment of the Politburo would now be placed before the Central Committee which is scheduled to meet in January end,” a senior leader told The Indian Express.

“We are trying to rejuvenate our party. The rectification is an exercise in that direction,” West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said after the meeting.

A press communique issued by the party said “the rectification report of the Politburo was discussed (and) this will be finalised and placed before the Central Committee”.

The rectification document has outlined the guidelines for strengthening democratic centralism as the organisational principle of the party, ensuring proper integration of parliamentary and extra-parliamentary work, maintenance of Communist norms and values and remoulding the outlook of the party members towards upholding progressive values.

The party’s central committee had finalised the document two months ago and the party plans to complete the first phase of the process by June next year.

Although decided by the CPM Congress last year, the efforts to set in motion the rectification exercise gained momentum after the defeat in the Lok Sabha elections.

While analysing the election debacle, the CPM had found out disturbing erosion of party standards and communist values among its rank and file.

It had concluded that parliamentarism was leading to open violation of the party norms and decided to initiate steps to remove the organisational weaknesses and rectify the wrong trends in the party.

late but good path by siju on 28 Dec 2009

Good move, shows that communist party is different from other parties. Now is time to move back to communism and support struggle of comrades everywhere , communism is bigger than any leader or party itself.

CPM RECTIFICATION - AN EYEWASH by Balakrishnan on 28 Dec 2009

The CPM leadership is sunk in corruption and luxurious living. Now they cannot sacrifice their car to carpet life and go back to the simple life of ordinary people. There is not a single ideal leader to follow. Then how they will have followers. Of course they have followers/cadres, who wants to make money like their leaders from or through politics. Now CPM is not working as a political party in a democratic set up. Most of their actions are like militants and underworld organizations.(That is why they are receiving it back from the 'maoist' group in West Bengal.) 'Democracy' is there only in slogans and speeches. I think, most of the main 'political parties' in India are in the same bandwagon.

Its a very good sign, as self evolution is the best way 2 identify your pitfalls. True communalism, is the heritage of bengal whether it comes from the ruling or the opposition, is beneficial for the people of our country. The party top level leader should take care of the sub-urbs and the villagse as these parts have the mostly served people of communalism, and the corruption and mis-use of the power is very much in these area. Good luck bengal....

Jersey change by Milan on 28 Dec 2009

Nice to know that the top has started to change too.Change has nearly completed at the bottom end and is locally known as 'Jersey change'.From all read they have changed to Green and Orange. The problem is not with party ideology but with the selfishness of the people .The people cannot look beyond petty gains that they may get if they wag their tail. There are many who are waging their tails for years wishing that they will get a school teacher job at the onset of old-age.These tail wagers worthless creatures have changed with slight hint of change making it a mass 'Jersey change' festival. This is not real change ...It is the old wine in new bottle.

The present CPI(M)leadership cannot be compared with the great leadership of Sundarya,Randive,Promode DasGupta,HareKrishna Konar,Namboodripad and Basva Punniya. We have seen Saroj Mukherjee & Benoy Chowdhury too. Party must start rectification from top and must not depend on any class of intellectuals. This class can change their colour at any time.Party must sincerely think about working class & peasant who consist more than 80% of Indian population.Leaders belong to middle class are maximum corrupt and self seekers. Party knows very well about these people.Party in Bengal has been dominated by Calcutta & its sarrounding area is the main reason of leadership failure. Also there is total administrative failure to cotrol law & order. This has to be looked into first.
