Kolkata The 12-hour bandh called by the CPM paralysed life in South 24-Parganas today. The bandh was called by the CPM district committee in protest against the murder of four party supporters in Canning on Monday.

Pilgrims and commuters were left stranded on the roads as CPM cadres enforced the bandh forcefully by threatening them and ransacking vehicles. Cadres with party flags blocked roads at Garia, Baghajatin and Jadavpur preventing ambulances from reaching hospitals and children from reaching schools. The vehicles carrying media persons were also not spared by the protestors.

Although the EM Bypass was kept outside the purview of the bandh, CPM workers stopped traffic there as well as the Kasba connector.

Train services in Sealdah divison were also badly hit. Tracks were blocked by CPM supporters at Ghutiarisharif, Baruipur and Sonarpur, railway officials said.
