“In one village, Trinamool supporters snatched the voter identity cards of over 1,000 villagers. So we have demanded a repolling in 20 booths,” Bose told mediapersons on Tuesday. He added that in 53 booths political workers were not allowed to work.

The Election Commission has, however, promptly turned down the CPM’s request and reiterated that the elections were peaceful.

District Magistrate of East Midnapore and returning officer of EC, Choten Dhendhup Lama, said: “We have received complaints. However, polls were peaceful, free and fair. We do not think we can consider a repoll.”

Meanwhile, CPM sources said that according to the report sent by the district party office, there were stray clashes in Nandigram during the polls. “Trinamool goons have carried out a veiled terror campaign,” said Bose.
