Kolkata On the first day of the three-day CPM meet held on Friday, party cadres lauded the performance of the SFI in the recently concluded students’ elections. The CPM-backed SFI had lapped up an impressive 126 of the 202 college seats that went to polls.

The party, say sources, is hoping the SFI success inspires the senior rank and file. “The spirit of the district level leaders will definitely encourage the ranks,” said a senior state committee member.

Biman Bose, state secretary of the party, said the meeting yesterday discussed organisational matters and also the present political situation in the state.

In the presence of party general secretary Prakash Karat and politburo member Sitaram Yechuri, a leader from South 24-Parganas reportedly said the district has become a violence-prone area since the Lok Sabha polls. The meeting, which will continue till Sunday is scheduled to discuss party prospects in the upcoming 82 civic body polls due in May-June later this year.
