Kolkata Police today recovered the bullet-ridden body of a CPM supporter from a forest in Goaltore police station in West Midnapore.

The body of Rakha Hari Shar (42), a CPM supporter from Makli village who went missing two days ago, was found today by locals near a forest Bhandarpur.

West Midnapore SP Manoj Verma said Shar was abducted by suspected Maoists two days ago. Police said Maoists believed the victim was a police informer.

Meanwhile, security was beefed up in West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia ahead of the two-day bandh called by the CPI (Maoist) beginning Tuesday.

In a related development, one person was arrested from a village in Purulia district when the villagers prevented the police from removing some posters put up by Maoists.

Purulia SP Nisat Parvez said the locals got into a scuffle with policemen while they were trying to remove the posters calling for the bandh. Two policemen were injured in the incident, he said.
