Kolkata The co-ordination committee of state government employees, affiliated to the ruling CPM put the state’s bureaucracy in the dock today by saying it was because of hurdles put up by them that the welfare measures taken by the state could not be implemented.

The salvo was fired by committee secretary Ananta Bandopadhyay, who said the officers were standing in the way of implementation of the government’s policies like distribution of ration cards, preparation of BPL cards, implementation of the NREGS, modernisation of health care facilities and setting up of infrastructure, to name a few.

Bandopadhyay said this while announcing organisation of the committee’s 42nd conference, which will be held at the Writers’ Building from January 29 to 31. In all, 600 delegates from across the state will attend the conference.

“We can take names of several officers. For example in the Education department, there is an officer called Sukumar Mahapatra, who is responsible for the entire PTTI fiasco,” alleged Bandopadhyay. “These officers tarnish the government’s image,” he said.
