Of the 22 seats, the CPM-backed SFI won 19, while two seats of class representatives went to Congress-backed Chhatra Parishad and one to Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad. The elections in the college were held amid tight security.
“This proves that if elections are held in a democratic manner and without outside help, we will win them,” said Madhuja Sen Roy, the Kolkata district president of the SFI.
The supporters of Chhatra Parishad, meanwhile, claimed that the elections were not held in a transparent manner.
“The authorities allowed students with forged ID cards inside college to cast fake votes,” alleged Sourav Chakraborty, state president of Chhatra Parishad. The agitating students blocked roads near the college for nearly half-an-hour at 2 pm just after the results were announced.
